Ras Al Khaimah, in the north of the UAE, is where the Hajar Mountains meet the sea. It’s the emirate for adventure, history and wide-open landscapes, about an hour’s drive from Dubai.

Why explore Ras Al Khaimah with a local guide

RAK’s best experiences are outdoors — mountain trails, wadis and remote heritage sites. A local guide knows the safe routes, the right time of day and the history of the forts and villages that tell the story of the northern Emirates.

Top experiences with a Ras Al Khaimah guide

  • Jebel Jais — the UAE’s highest mountain, with viewing decks, hiking trails, cooler air and adventure activities including one of the world’s longest ziplines.
  • Dhayah Fort — a hilltop fort overlooking palm groves and the sea, with sweeping views from the top.
  • Al Jazirah Al Hamra — a remarkably preserved former pearling village of coral-stone houses, mosques and alleyways.
  • National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah — housed in a historic fort, telling the story of the emirate.
  • Al Marjan Island — beaches and resorts on a set of man-made islands.
  • Mountain hikes and wadis — guided routes for beginners and experienced hikers.

Best time to visit Ras Al Khaimah

October to April is best for hiking and outdoor exploring. Temperatures at the top of Jebel Jais are noticeably cooler than on the coast all year round.

Local tips

  • Bring proper walking shoes, plenty of water and a warm layer for the mountains in winter.
  • Start hikes early in the day and always follow your guide’s advice on weather and route conditions.
