When to go

October to April is the best season. Summer days are very hot; if you visit then, be on the water early and finish by late morning.

Getting there

  • By car or with a driver-guide: about 90 minutes from Dubai via the Hatta road.
  • Public buses run from Dubai, but a car gives you flexibility to reach the dam, trails and village.
  • You stay within Dubai, but carry your passport or Emirates ID as a precaution.

Insider tips from local guides

  • Arrive at the dam in the morning for calm water and soft light for photos.
  • Bring plenty of water, sun protection and proper shoes for rocky paths.
  • Never enter wadis when rain is forecast — flash floods are dangerous.
