Dubai Marina is a man-made canal city of skyscrapers, yachts and waterfront cafés, joined to the beach at JBR. It’s one of the most enjoyable places in Dubai to simply walk — especially as the towers light up after sunset.

What makes the Marina special
Built in the early 2000s around a canal carved from the coastline, the Marina was one of Dubai’s first big waterfront communities. Today it’s home to tens of thousands of residents, a lively dining scene and a skyline that looks like a forest of glass from the water.
Things to do
Walk the Marina Walk
A promenade loops around the canal for several kilometres, lined with cafés and restaurants. Late afternoon into evening is the best time, when the heat drops and the towers glow.
Take a cruise
Traditional dhow dinner cruises, speedboat tours and small yacht charters leave from the Marina. A dhow cruise is a relaxed way to see the skyline; a speedboat can take you out to see Palm Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab from the sea.
Head to JBR beach and The Walk
Jumeirah Beach Residence has a wide public beach, water sports and an outdoor street of shops and restaurants that’s busy in the evenings.
Bluewaters Island
Connected by footbridge from JBR, Bluewaters has waterfront dining and views back towards the Marina skyline.
How to get there and around
- Metro: Dubai Marina and DMCC (Jumeirah Lakes Towers) stations are on the Red Line.
- Tram: the Dubai Tram loops around the Marina and JBR and connects with the metro and the Palm Monorail.
- Water taxi and ferry: a fun way to travel along the coast.
Insider tips from local guides
- For the classic skyline photo, cross to the far side of the canal from where you’re staying — the view of the towers you’re standing under is always better from across the water.
- Weekday evenings are calmer than Friday and Saturday nights.
- In summer, plan outdoor time after 6pm and use the air-conditioned malls in between.
Combine it with
Palm Jumeirah is next door — take the monorail out to the crescent — and Burj Al Arab and the Jumeirah beaches are a short drive along the coast.
