Sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain sit just north of Dubai and are easy to combine in one day. Expect museums, waterfronts and a slower, more traditional pace.
Plan your day
- Getting there: Sharjah borders Dubai; Ajman and Umm Al Quwain are a short drive further north.
- Dress code: Sharjah has a more conservative dress code — cover shoulders and knees.
- Best season: October to April.
Morning: Sharjah
Start in Sharjah, the UAE’s cultural capital. Walk through the restored Heart of Sharjah heritage area and visit one of its excellent museums, such as the Museum of Islamic Civilization.
Midday: Ajman
Continue to Ajman to see the museum in its historic fort, then have lunch by the corniche.
Afternoon: Umm Al Quwain
Finish in Umm Al Quwain, the quietest Emirate. See its old fort, walk the old town and, if time allows, kayak among the mangroves.
